The Fort Carson Tree Memorial Project
“Not Forgotten”
Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, we are continually reminded of the sacrifices that our military men and women make each day in the fight against terrorism.
Because of our close proximity to Fort Carson, the largest army base in Colorado, we are mindfully aware of the struggles our military families and their deployed loved ones endure in support of our nation’s mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. To honor these heroic men and women, we approached Fort Carson with an idea that would show our appreciation for these soldiers’ service to our country.
Today our vision is becoming a reality in the form of a tree grove with the theme, “Not Forgotten”. The grove is planned to include 77 trees – one for each conservation district in the state of Colorado.
We are currently in the final planning phase of this project. We have the full support of base personnel, CACD, and NACD. Fort Carson has agreed to provide the acreage for our grove – in a prime location that will eventually include a church and a museum. We visualize this area as a place for military families and others to come and reflect on our soldiers’ sacrifices and the freedom these troops fight so hard to keep.
However, we are still one step away from making this memorial become a reality. We want you to be a part of this project. Your district’s $300 donation will enable us to purchase one tree for the memorial grove. Your tree will include a plaque recognizing your district’s contribution.
We hope to start planting trees for this memorial by March 2007. Watch your mail for upcoming press releases about this project – including an article in the Conservator. Also, log onto our website at www.elpasocd.org to view continual updates on our progress.
This tree grove will be an everlasting reminder of your conservation district’s appreciation and support of the men and women bravely serving our country.
Sincerely,
John Bradshaw Robert Cordova
